  • Summary: The solo debut album of Deerhunter's Lockett Pundt.

  1. This is, undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful records of this year, and its very indistinctness forces you to go back to it over and over.

It's the kind of cohesive "album" album that's hard to find these days. [Spring 2009, p.72]
  3. Accessible and elusive at the same time, The Floodlight Collective is an addictive debut.
  4. While The Floodlight Collective offers a great set of songs, I’d still like to see Pundt deliver a more idiosyncratic album through which we can truly hear him expose himself.
  5. So The Floodlight Collective is a mostly elegant listen, and one whose failings are part of its theme: Like a vague recollection, it's still a little hard to hold onto after it's over-- pretty albeit somewhat ephemeral.
  6. Part of what makes it so distinctive is also what ultimately frustrates. The songs bleed into one another until the reverb-drenched vocals and phantasmic spirals of sound become heavy-handed, almost overwhelming.
  7. Despite the similarities, there’s actually a few brief moments in The Floodlight Collective where Pundt one-ups the band he derivates from, but there’s unfortunately as many that are boring enough to negate any previous triumph.

Deerhunter. Atlas Sound. Lotus Plaza. If you love one of them, you're gonna adore the others two. Personally, Lotus Plaza is my late nightDeerhunter. Atlas Sound. Lotus Plaza. If you love one of them, you're gonna adore the others two. Personally, Lotus Plaza is my late night record to be listened with a glass of old scotch and the occasional gandja. Sheer perfection.
