A rewarding indie-pop set that's as warm and comforting as a hot water bottle at the end of a bed.

Goldberg, though, ought not to be penalised for his occasional switch of stance and self-leniency: this is an album that may not grace millions of record collections, but may well enjoy classic status in those that it does.

The understated quality shows off his talents in a positive light, but presumably, Espinoza helped out in this way.

This stuff is not only good, it's (mostly) weirdly good. [May 2011, p.106]

The shorter production time of this album is perhaps reflected in the lack of variety. Of these ten songs, pretty much all of them are piano-or-guitar-led lamentations that veer conservatively in tone from vaguely melancholy to vaguely upbeat (more of the former than the latter).

The songs are thoughtful without thinking too much of themselves. [Feb 2011, p.64]

The Sisters' eponymous first release throws up the unlikely comparison of John Lennon fronting The Flaming Lips, only to result in something that's too unfocused and self-indulgent to be more than a passing curiosity. [Mar 2011, p.116]
