The Great Gatsby Soundtrack is a fine example of what a film’s musical-mate can and should be; it mirrors many aesthetic elements of the film, augments the general storyline and adds depth and personality to the characters and dialogue on the screen.

The resulting collection is something more middling, neither offensive nor revolutionary, with memorable moments and forgettable ones.

Buying into Luhrmann's vision is always the issue, but here, the music is crafted enough, inspired enough, and deep enough that it's worth diving into without reservations.

Not everything works. Lana Del Rey's "Young and Beautiful" is meant to be one of the album's centerpieces; instead, it's inert, a drag. But the LP conjures a consistent mood of noirish, doomed romance.

Executive Producer Jay-Z did a fantastic job of putting this together. The stand out tracks to me are, besides obvious favorites Lana Del Rey & Florence The Machine, Jack White with his cover of U2's "Love Is Blindness", Coco O's "Where The Wind Blows", Emeli Sande & The Bryan Ferry Orchestra's "Crazy In Love (Kid Koala Version)", and Gotye's "Heart's A Mess". Excellent music all around and it is a very enjoyable listen from start to finish. Full Review »

Favourites would have to be Back to Black, Crazy in Love and Fergie's 'A Little Party Never Killed Nobody'. Full Review »
