  1. So few bands may be better suited to the greatest-hits treatment, and with the group going on hiatus (following 2007’s middling Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace), now is the time to do it. The standard edition collects 13 of the hits and features two songs, “Wheels” and “Word Forward,” recorded for this compilation, and a previously unreleased acoustic version of “Everlong.”

Much of Greatest Hits will be familiar to people who've never heard a Foo Fighters album before: indeed, these are precisely the people it's aimed at. Like all such, Greatest Hits fulfills a function for fans too. [Dec 2009, p.134]
  3. Greatest Hits isn't arranged chronologically, which isn't a detriment; if anything, skipping through the years emphasizes just how consistent the Foos have been, always delivering oversized rock & roll where the hooks are as big as the guitars.
  4. What Greatest Hits brings into clearer focus is how Foo Fighters have always been somewhat out of place and perhaps mischaracterized. It also shows how solid the band's catalog of tunes is, and how well it has stood the test of time. That is, if you like classic rock.
  5. As a compilation, Greatest Hits offers few surprises other than that Grohl somehow resisted the temptation to title this thing The Best of Foo. Though the record conspicuously lacks the band's breakthrough single, "I'll Stick Around", the first 13 tracks make good on the promise of the title and provide a relentless hit parade of modern rock radio staples.

This album is tremendous with The Colour and the Shape are my 2 favorites.
They are all big issues that made them huge!. Everlong, Best of You, All My Life ... At least trying to innovate, and like all people. Giving and other acoustic rock songs. And mixtures of 2, leaving gems like The Pretender.
This was my first record of them, which was recommended by a friend of mine.
And since I got it, I was unable to buy things from the Foo Fighters. Incredible ...

Their collection goes far deeper than this, but if you haven't listened to this band, maybe this is a good introduction. I do believe Foo Fighters are one of the best bands to come out of the 90's and they deserve recognition. To not have The Colour and Shape listed on your best 90's albums is ridiculous. Expand

They have arguably produced some of the best rock singles of the last 20 years. "All My Life", "Everlong" and "The Pretender" are guaranteed to fill the floor of any indie disco. I look at the band differently when the subject of their albums is bought up. I'm sure hardcore fans will disagree but generally, I feel all of their albums contain some filler to varying degrees. For a fan like me, this greatest hits package should be perfect. In reality its a very decent collection but not without its faults. There is an almost exclusive focus on the Foo Fighters shouty rock numbers. I can understand this to an extent but it doesn't excuse the omission of one of my favourite Foo's songs "Walking After You" from their 1997 magnum opus "The Colour and The Shape". Surely this should have been included instead of a 2nd version of "Everlong" or even the throwaway bonus track "Word Forward". This is a very good collection but falls ever so slightly short of fully satisfying. Collapse
