Like the sugar in hot sauce, all the additional soulful and jazzy flavors - pale blue chords, sax-y loops, mellow piano comping - just bring out the stinging attack of the beats more fiercely.

The Footwork moves might be hard to master, nut there's every chance your brain will o a jig to this. [May 2012, p.66]
  3. May 14, 2012
Da Mind Of Traxman, rarely overly solemn and ever-playful, is still far from a middlebrow defanging.
  4. May 9, 2012
Without jettisoning the basic stylistic minimalism and scarcity of artistic means which makes footwork such a thrillingly raw, blunt, and immediate form, Traxman manages to subtly expand and redefine the possibilities of the genre.

While this record is steeped in mature rhythms, the hype tendencies that make the music ghetto are never sacrificed.
  6. Apr 30, 2012
Da Mind of Traxman marries the soul of the past with the bangs of the future so fluidly that the sound's innately harsh nature has been marginalized, making for an all-around enjoyable experience no matter the location.

What sets Traxman apart from most of his current footwork peers is an ability to preserve the tenderness when he's strip-mining house, soul, disco and Prince... This should not detract from his equal skill at conjuring unruly, drums'n'samples raw bangers, of which Da Mind Of Traxman has plenty.

This is the best footwork album released by Planet Mu to date, and sits comfortably in the upper echelons of their discography. Traxman has set the bar incredibly high.

It is tugs and pulls like these [going from raw, minimal stutter to a serenade of a "foreign-language female vocalist"], that take you to the edge and then let you down quickly but softly, that showcase the heart of what is most appealing about footwork and the genius of Mind of Traxman.
  10. Apr 23, 2012
Da Mind of Traxman is notable in part because it's an album more concerned with footwork's past than its future.

Footwork newcomers might want to test their stamina with one of Planet Mu's excellent Bangs & works compilations first. [Jun 2012, p.114]
