As far as historic compilations go, this is an undeniable belter, successfully capturing music with a very particular energy worth celebrating.

Like it or not, the synths are here to stay, and The Minimal Wave Tapes Volume Two adds several more fascinating pieces to the puzzle.

The second set might not be as powerful as its predecessor, but the milieu it conjures is still engrossingly evocative. [May 2012, p.61]
  4. A wonky, Teutonic thing full of outré drama and should-be pop classics.
  5. Jun 13, 2012

It offers no new narrative or stated focus and thus represents nothing more than the second gleaning of tracks from the cloistered minimal wave universe. Still, there's something undeniable here.

The Minimal Wave Tapes Volume 2 loses a bit of the first volume's vitality. Furthermore, by suggesting that this music can be replicated in any era, the collection betrays its former thesis that there was something particularly special about the historical circumstances that lead to all this music coming into being.

Enthusiasts will salivate over another uncovering of tainted treasure.
