Very dull. Disappointing for Lou Barlow fans. Hoped for better but, got what I expected.

  1. And while its high points are nice and its low points aren't offensive, The New Folk Implosion is not the kind of album one would likely choose to listen to over the Pearl Jam and Paul Westerberg records that are similar and, frankly, better.
  2. A rock record that sounds a lot like Sebadoh with an aspiring guitar hero. [Mar 2003, p.94]
  3. 60
For better and occasionally worse, it feels effortless for listener and writer alike. [Apr 2003, p.112]
