  1. Walks the narrow path between playful adventurousness and tuneful accessibility with ragged elegance and swaggering confidence.

Sometimes the tone is self-congratulatory, but a house band this glorious deserves some kind of standing ovation. [May 2004, p.127]
  3. Amazing collaborations that emphasize the veteran band's rich Latin and blues roots.
  4. Entertainment Weekly
    91
The collaborative approach yields some of the most potent music of the group's career. [7 May 2004, p.86]
  5. Such guests hardly bring commercial cachet. What they add is a depth and dynamism that transcend genres, generations and language, transforming Los Lobos' trademark sound without throwing the band off its foundation.
  6. Mojo
    80
Los Lobos' ingenuity with arrangements and atmosphere makes The Ride something special. [Jun 2004, p.102]
  7. Q Magazine
    80
It's all linked by a sense of dignity, wisely chosen collaborators and David Hidalgo's voice. [Aug 2004, p.115]
  8. Rolling Stone
    60
The Ride doesn't rank with the classic Los Lobos of How Will the Wolf Survive? or the experimental Kiko; instead, it contains aspects of both and is a tribute to the group's influences. [13 May 2004, p.74]
  9. The Ride is both party and primer, taking listeners through what one set of musicians has learned about their craft over 30 years.
