  1. Such guests hardly bring commercial cachet. What they add is a depth and dynamism that transcend genres, generations and language, transforming Los Lobos' trademark sound without throwing the band off its foundation.

It's all linked by a sense of dignity, wisely chosen collaborators and David Hidalgo's voice. [Aug 2004, p.115]

Sometimes the tone is self-congratulatory, but a house band this glorious deserves some kind of standing ovation. [May 2004, p.127]
  6. Amazing collaborations that emphasize the veteran band's rich Latin and blues roots.

The Ride doesn't rank with the classic Los Lobos of How Will the Wolf Survive? or the experimental Kiko; instead, it contains aspects of both and is a tribute to the group's influences. [13 May 2004, p.74]

great concept, solid musicianship as always. pretty eclectic array of sounds, maybe too eclectic. "across 110th st." steals the show
