Singles shows that their craftsmanship and good taste may have been their most defining quality.

[This album] makes one thing absolutely clear: whatever else they were up to, Goldfrapp have always delivered astonishing pop singles.

Directional swerves are admirable, but make an uneven set, especially as the material from their first three albums has more palpable sparkle than the rest.

Goldfrapp have spent the past decade moving back and forth between icy electro-glam and atmospheric balladry... [The Singles] makes a virtue of their range.

Over the course of five albums, Goldfrapp have proved themselves one of the most imaginative, artistic and entertaining bands of this new century... [Singles] offers an intriguing introduction to one of Britain's premier pop art bands.

What this collection leaves you wanting--and what Goldfrapp do most wonderfully--is weirdness. [Mar 2012, p.116]

The songs reunited on The Singles should be celebrated by anyone fascinated by the UK's long tradition of tuneful eccentrics.

As a whole feels like a more complete and satisfying journey than either of Goldfrapp's last two albums, progressing confidently from crushing guitar-driven boogie to weightless space pop.

Some of the finest [songs] from the band's musical jewelbox - infectious, modern yet timeless, and wrought with a thoughtful complexity buried within the harmonies and song structures. [Mar 2012, P.91]

While technically not a best of album, this compilation really gathers their highest quality tracks. In fairness to them, they have a distinctive style and have put out the music they wanted to rather than putting out stuff that they thought would sell. There are quite a few tracks on here that you'll know but never knew were Goldfrapp. "Ooh la la", "Black Cherry" and "Yellow Halo" are my favourites on this. Full Review »
