I recognize in writing this how delicate the subject of Sparta is. Knowing all too well that there are many militant Mars Volta fans out there who'd love to bring my head to Omar upon hearing my argument against their existance, I ask now that they listen with unpretentious ears to Sparta's latest offering. Comming of the heels of every other artist's political epiphany, I recognize in writing this how delicate the subject of Sparta is. Knowing all too well that there are many militant Mars Volta fans out there who'd love to bring my head to Omar upon hearing my argument against their existance, I ask now that they listen with unpretentious ears to Sparta's latest offering. Comming of the heels of every other artist's political epiphany, Sparta took to arms (along with a new member) and recorded a new album. Though not as humbled and down to the roots as Wiretap Scars or as sad and longing as Porcelain, it retains many of the best qualities that Sparta's offered in the past. The lyrics now are bitter and filled with a politically fuled rage targeted clearly at our current administration. Unlike their counterpart (The Volta), they get their point across without alienating their fans. As any good political artist, they lyrics make their presence known by working on more than one level, emotional and political. Expand

Excellent Album! I think it's their best. It's their most mature album yet. I don't understand why the Austin chronicle critic is so harsh. I just hope they have the success they deserve with this album.

An Amazing album. Jim said this was supposed to be a cultimation or graduation of their work, it felt to me like they walked past the stage and straight into college with flying colors. You can hear traces of prior work but really this is a completely different sounding album that is incredible.

Flawless & full of depth. Dark in its tone, but easy on the spirit. I could not recommend it more.

Their most accomplished and least anxious record yet. [Nov 2006, p.182]

Call it diversity; call it inconsistency; whatever. Moving in some direction is half the battle. [#22, p.93]

The truth is, even Angels & Airwaves do this sort of epic-emo thing with more verve, if not more Verve. [#73, p.96]
