  • Summary: The fun, energetic collage of danceable, mainly instrumental music (genre names don't really apply here) on this debut disc from England's The Go! Team recalls, if only somewhat, the debut from The Avalanches.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 24 out of 25
  2. Negative: 0 out of 25
  1. It is, quite simply, one of the essential albums of the year.
  2. It's so overwhelmingly happy and thrilling a musical statement that it would justify even a few more exclamation points.

The Go! Team's eclectic soundclash makes us feel deliriously dizzy. [11 Sep 2004, p.53]
  4. Thunder, Lightning, Strike is for people who love music that hits them over the head with the sheer enjoyment of the human ability to rock.
  5. "Thunder, Lightning, Strike" is an immensely derivative album, but one which cuts and pastes its influences in a strikingly original way. Chiefly, by piling them all on at once.
  6. It’s all tons of fun, and is almost guaranteed to cheer you up with its overwhelming chirpiness.

They're like a five-member Polyphonic Spree wearing Urban Outfitters, jacked up on Jolt cola, and rocking out in their garage with a bunch of instruments bought from a pawn shop. [#7]

This is the music that superheroes listen too, inspired with the unabashed the sheer size of the music. Nothing can compete with the Go! Team This is the music that superheroes listen too, inspired with the unabashed the sheer size of the music. Nothing can compete with the Go! Team for sheer energy and joy. Collapse

Instantly loveable! This album is bouncy, flamboyant and sometimes mad. More bands need to be as individual and fun as The Go! team.

Horrible, loud, stupid, insipid, low-fi garbage... and that's being kind. This is the kind of crap pretentious know-it-all (meaning Horrible, loud, stupid, insipid, low-fi garbage... and that's being kind. This is the kind of crap pretentious know-it-all (meaning "know nothing") rock reviewers without talent or ears put on their best lists to be thankfully forgotten by the following year and shortly thereafter found en mass in a used bin for $2 and no takers.
