Even if there are no classics on the order of the ones that so impressed that youngster from Asbury Park, New Jersey, Eric Burdon’s river is far from running dry.

To be honest, there are no masterpieces here. But there is a whole lot of damn fine music here.

While ’Til Your River Runs Dry is unlikely to broaden his fan base to any large degree, longtime followers should be thrilled to find Burdon in such fine voice.

This is one of his best albums by far. Eric just got so much soul. His power is a true inspiration and his river is far from running dry. Saw him in concert few days ago and it was absolutely mind blowing. He is a true legend and actually one of the greatest artists of our time. Totally underrated! Expand

Eric Burdon was 72 and looking back on a 50+ years career when this album was recorded. While Rolling Stone magazine listed him among the topEric Burdon was 72 and looking back on a 50+ years career when this album was recorded. While Rolling Stone magazine listed him among the top 100 singers, his recording career and especially his album output has been patchy and widely inconsistent. His life had been constant touring including the joining and disbanding or various groups and his involvement in many short-lived co-operations with other musicians.
Drummer/producer Tony Braunagel has assembled a top band and Burdon has co-written most of the songs and tells a personal story through them. It is immediately apparent that the singer is supporting his material with heart and soul - and his voice. Musically they make use of all the genres Burdon feels at home with, always matching the style to the topic. They can do this because Eric's voice has not lost any of its power, it carries the hard rocking Old Habits Die Hard just as well as the homage to the singer's old idol Bo Diddley.
All of this makes 'Til Your River Runs Dry one of the best albums in his long career.
