This album lacks the organic unpredictability of both Brazilian hip-hop and samba. While the tracks are tight and well produced, they are too square and mechanical.

A couple of loser tracks, but some other smile-inducing numbers that sound great played loud. The Legend track is a standout.

I agree with part of the review. I was thinking why wa Swgio Mendes-THE Segio mendes- have someone talkinh about booties and titties on his album? That was pretty glaring BUT the album is still on point.

Whose album is this anyway - Will.I.Am or Sergio Mendes? I'm so disappointed in Will.I.Am's decision to impose himself on so many of the tracks on this album. He dumbs down the brilliance of this project with his unecessary and lackluster rhyming skills. Let's hope that on his next production effort he'll keep his mouth shut and let the real artists shine. I love the album. I especially loved the song, "Loose Ends". It's the perfect song for whats going on with the war. It's not many artists that have the guts to speak out with their music.

The mix of artists and styles in such an effective way is reminiscent Carlos Santana's multi-Grammy winning Supernatural CD.

It's really strange listening to music that is well done by the main artist, but is made absolutely terrible by the featured artists. That is exactly the case here. Sergio Mendes creates a cool vibe that is ruined by the heat generated by the star power. I rather listen to frogs croaking for 12 straight hours than listen to this album again. Let me tell you I am a pretty big Sergio Mendes fan, but the choices he made in this musical effort just feel unnatural. The songs in Portuguese are the most beautiful, but even then I feel like I'm riding a snowboard carried by the same beats and sounds that are in every other song in this album. I guess what I'm trying to say is that nothing really works in this album. The sound tries to mess samba, hip-hop, and pop, but their are way too many loose ends to actually work. I hope that Sergio Mendes continues to make good music, but if he continues to make music like this his career will most likely come to a halt. Expand

  1. When Timeless succeeds, it's beautiful, boundary-breaking music.
  2. Timeless is a mixed bag, but it's not because of Mendes. His own playing and arranging is utterly elegant.

An intriguing change of pace. [18 Feb 2006]
