  • Summary: More "rocking" than recent LP 'Summer Sun,' this six-track EP includes four new songs plus alternate versions of "Cherry Chapstick" and the title cut.

  1. This handsomely eclectic collection merits inclusion as an essential addition to Yo La Tengo's richly diverse catalogue.
  2. Today is the Day ranks as an outstanding album on its own merits, but its timing is also impeccable. Arriving at the end of this year, it will hopefully silence those who have accused Yo La Tengo of sliding into mid-career pleasantness.
  3. The fuzz and drone of Today is the Day is a refreshing look back at the band’s mid-90s, Painful/Electropura era.
  4. Whatever their motives, this return to rock and roll is a welcome one.
  5. Just the right mixture of sonics.
  6. The slapdash feel will remind fans of the band's early days. [30 Oct 2003, p.93]
  7. In short, if you've been waiting for Yo La Tengo to rediscover the amps they used on "Mushroom Cloud of Hiss" or "Attack on Love," well, this isn't quite your dream disc but it's a step in the right direction.
