Thanks to the hooky and familiar songs, the exciting performances, and the perfectly executed aesthetic, Too Young to Be in Love is simply and truly a great rock & roll record.

The 10 songs on Too Young to Be in Love are exuberant snapshots of rock music's earliest years, bursting with teenage romance and allusions to oral sex, but they are also very faithful ones.

Bogart has a nasal, pop punk voice, which works well in this genre. The girls have beautiful full voices. Their interplay is dynamic sometimes, but at others the disparity shifts the focus onto the thinness of the songwriting.

They produce strong enough tunes to make their act more than just a celebration of kitsch. [May 2011, p.88]

Throughout, Hunx nasally trills teenage romantic pain over raw retro clatter, and if Spector heard songs such as The curse Of being Young and Tonite Tonite from his prison cell, he'd surely approve. [May 2011, p.116]

It's only rock'n'roll but you'll probably like it.

Hunx And His Punx are happily basic, and that has resulted in a half-hour of impeccable golden-age pop, but there's certainly no great cosmic significance here. Yet it's still easy to get excited about a half-hour of impeccable golden-age pop, and in that mindset it's well worth a few spins.

Sonically speaking, Hunx And His Punx have hit on an essentially 'vintage' sound without being terribly authentic.

At times offering an interesting deconstruction of classic love-song tropes via a gay lens, Too Young To Be In Love is long on attitude and short on memorable melodies.

Slower tempos and fewer yuks mean less fun, but tougher backing vocals pump the essential estrogen.

More than that, it sounds like Bogart is working out some heavy things on Too Young to Be in Love; it's just a bummer that the discomfort is put upon the listener as well.

Too Young to Be in Love may be a lot of things, but kitschy is not one of them, as Hunx and His Punx yet again provide a fresh take on the first generations of rock and roll, executed with tact and sparkle.

Between the camping, the re-contextualizing, the endless musical cut-n'-paste, Hunx and His Punx throw up a lot of barriers between their listener and any kind of un-self-conscious appreciation of their songs.

Subtlety is clearly not a strong suit here.

Too Young To Be In Love captures the primal pulse of vintage late-'50s/early -'60s radio bubblegum with a loving touch. [Apr 2011, p.115]

Too Young To Be In Love leans less heavily on pervy wisecracks, with fantastic results.

There is real sorrow and feeling amongst all the fun and the record will hopefully see Hunx gain some of the attention that is way over due.

While the slog through the mostly interchangeable mid-tempo, spoken-verse tracks on the first twenty two minutes of the album is a lot of saminess to deal with, a couple genuine pleasures await anyone patient enough to make it through to the album's final moments.
