The Young-ian guitar stutter remains intact. [Mar 2005, p.92]
  2. This is simply some of the best guitar-driven rock I've heard all year.

MEC bombard the listener with wondrous guitar sprawls to match Molina's soulful drawl. [15 Jan 2005, p.86]
  4. It’s not about reinterpretations of songs or giving the fans something to listen to until the next record comes out. It’s a definitive marker, a turning point for one of our finest songwriters.
  5. If "Trials & Errors" is an advance look at the direction in which Molina is heading, this seems to be a perfect fit for him.
  6. Magnolia thunders through each number with burly confidence.
  7. Mojo

Hard to avoid thinking of Neil Young and Crazy Horse at the peak of their '70s powers. [Feb 2005, p.95]
  8. Q Magazine

The songs here bode well. [Jan 2005, p.128]
  9. Trials and Errors could be looked at as vindication for Molina given his choice to move on from his Songs: Ohia days; but as an essential live album, [it] leaves much to be desired.
  10. Uncut
    70
So charged it crackles. [Feb 2005, p.82]
  11. Alternative Press
    70
A document of one amazing night of music. [Mar 2005, p.124]
  12. The only shortfall that could be noted is that Trials & Errors is a touch long, clocking in at 72 minutes, but fans of Molina, along with the audience, who you can tell had a wonderful time at this show, will feel that this is a bonus.
  13. Magnolia Electric Co. is no Crazy Horse, and Molina's vocabulary on the guitar doesn't yet have the presence to carry such extended interpretations of his material.
  14. Under The Radar
    50
The backing members of Magnolia are perfectly competent, but sound justly uninspired by the material. [#8, p.115]
