Don’t see True as the album in which dance music imports the sounds of the American heartland into the club in hopes of digging up new audiences, or even new ideas; see it as the one in which country takes its place front and center in global pop.

While EDM grapples with growing pains, beset by adult problems like drugs and money, Avicii has made an album with the kind of pure pop heart that's as likely to appeal to eight-year-olds as it is to amped-up ravers.

Avicii's genre-hacking whimsy may seem decadent or oblivious. But it's undeniably optimistic--inspiring, even.

All of this proves that Avicii's new sound is much more than a page from Moby's Play book.

True is an album that takes one type of music and moulds it into something completely different, allowing Avicii to cement himself as one of the best DJs in the world.

In the end, it's an admirable and interesting effort where the highs offset the lows, but those with molly in hand and dancing shoes on feet should just cool their jets and get ready to sit a spell.

No one demonstrates the artist-as-cash-machine ethos better, as the mechanical churn of commerce rings loudly on each and every track.

Avicii changes a little bit his style, only to obtain amazing results. I think that the songs are well structured with the enough amount of "beat". Avicii will stay at the top the rest of the year. Expand

Avicii has been a household name in the world of House music, releases several singles and EP's we never got a full length album, but his debut "True" is finally here. And as a Dance album it tries some new tricks with adding Country/Bluegrass, seeing that on paper it would look stupid, but Avicii cleverly blends the two surprisingly well as the first half was pretty good. Unfortunately the second half turns into standard Dance music, and much like most House music, there's no real story as it's just beats, rhythms, and sound, which can work if done right, but it's not trying too. Still, fans of Avicii will enjoy what he releases here. Like I said the blending of Dance and Country is very effective here as songs including "Hey Brother" and "Wake me Up" all sound catchy, upbeat, and fun. Along with the hypnotic "Dear Boy" and "Addicted to You" the first half sticked with me for all twelve songs. But the second half is very vanilla House music which for the most part sound either good or okay. Still flaws aside "True" is a solid debut for Avicii and i'm curious to hear more about him, as he maybe one of the few producers out there who can blend genres very well. Expand
