  • Summary: 'Twice,' which, yes, follows 2001's 'Once,' is the second album for the Los Angeles-based band that features three members of Beachwood Sparks. While the Sparks employ a 60's California pop sound, the Tyde tend to echo somewhat more recent British groups such as Felt.

  1. Rademaker fronts the group with a delicate swagger, and though The Tyde sounds terrific doing ballads (particularly "Breaking Up The Band"), it sounds even better when it stops holding back.
  2. Those are the two things that Twice has in spades: soul and passion. Add to that a bunch of great songs, and you've got yourself a real keeper.
  3. Twice is a sweet, mercurial foray into lip-quivering American indie-rock infused with the blissful aroma of Creation-style ambience and the woody scent of paisley-clad cosmic country.

Both intoxicating and deliciously unmemorable. [Oct 2003, p.113]
  5. Twice is a summery, psychedelic treat.

These songs cut too deep to be pastiche.... A lovely record of enormous warmth. [Jun 2003, p.101]
  7. It's unabashedly retro, fuzzwop guitars bleeding psychedelica all over the place, crossing three decades of a never-ending summer of love and hate, but it's not revolutionary.
