  1. As studio swan songs go, this sounds pretty darn good.

    Giddily adventurous. [8-22 Jul 2004, p.128]
  3. A workmanlike effort that won’t do anything to harm the Phish legacy, but isn’t notable enough to make me wish that the band wasn’t packing it in.
  4. And while the album is still more focused and a much-needed improvement over 2002's Round Room and their finest since Billy Breathes, Undermind is essentially the sound of four musicians growing tired of the limits they've imposed on one another after decades of albums and touring.

For most of the album, Phish sound tighter and more alive than they normally do off stage.... [but] the band can't avoid the cloying tendencies that have always hampered their studio work. [18 Jun 2004, p.84]

It's a whole hell of a lot better than Round Room and some of the cuts (Scents and Subtle Sounds, Army of One, Undermind) are very good. Full Review »

I've gotta agree with Aaron. "The biggest corporate rock group in the history of music" breathes new life to the word asinine. I've gotta agree with Aaron. "The biggest corporate rock group in the history of music" breathes new life to the word asinine. That's almost as nonsensical as Rolling Stone saying "The Connection" was "the most commanding song of their sixteen-year recording career." To speak without thinking beforehand is like wiping your rear before you crap. Full Review »
