Nas is on point lyrically and instead of trying to create another illmatic as many pressured him to, he created a classic on his own terms that will take many listeners years to fully appreciate. Tracks like Sly Fox and Black President show his best rhymes and most thought provoking lyrics to date. Nas gives the hip hop nation what they need most and shows what non-hip hop fans (Pitchfork,LA Times, etc.) what real hip hop was meant to be. Listen to the best lyricist at his best on this modern day classic. Fox News and the non-hip hop fans are scared of how powerful his voice is and this album proves why rappers can still speak for a nation of millions Expand

9.5 it's not a recent classic like Food and Liquor, but besides that it's the next best hip hop cd to come out.... tied with Phoaroh Monch - Desire. untitled contains- Brilliant lyricism and the beats are above par, because lets face it Nas is not 50 cent, you don't listen to his cd for the beats. The Game has a lot to live up to. One Love.

Untitled is a new classic from the ever so consistant Nasir Jones. It is an insult seeing TC3 receiving 9's while Untitled has an average of 6 and 7s. The Pitchfork review is laughable. 9.5/10 I'm giving Nas' greatest album since Stillmatic. 1. Illmatic 2. Stillmatic / Untitled 4. It Was Written 5. God's Son 6. Hip-Hop Is Dead 7. Street's Disciple 8. I Am.

I'm very confused with Pitchfork's review, upon reading it a second time. I don't want to say this Ian cat doesn't know anything about hip hop......that's probably not true and it's pointless. But to say that Tha Carter III is/was 'avant garde'....what on that album has ANYTHING on this album. I agree with Frank D. - 8 for beats....10 for lyrics. Somehow, Nas sounds even nicer than he has in the past. As an "info-tainment" piece, on the mainstream, it gets no better. It has a nice combo of the brash baller and the cynic/politik commentary - both of which are what make Nas what he is. It's not Illmatic....but what album has been? Maybe Blueprint...maybe a couple more? Powerful lyrics, and while the lower rated reviews mostly knock the synth driven 80's style beats, they aren't that bad, and do not take away from the impact of this album. Cop it!

Second (or third?) the other reviewers, ...Pitchfork is waaay off. (Maybe they should stick to twee indie bands out of Sweden?) Though inconsistent at times, Nas has been on fire and consistently pushing himself forward ever since 'Stillmatic' and after he stopped bothering to produce another Illmatic. Can't wait for what he tries next.

Agree with Joe T. 100%. Pitchfork has given RAVE reviews to some of the whackest albums I've ever heard. To keep things brief, the albums lyrics surpass Hip Hop Is Dead, NaS' previous release, and are reminiscent of The Lost Tapes & Illmatic in overall quality. NaS never deviates from the song's topic, except for on songs with no real topic, such as the star-studded Make The world Go Round. The beats are another story, and are mostly average - sometimes terrible and occasionally great. But, like his inspiration, Rakim Allah, makes clear, hip-hop albums foundation and soul reside in the message and lyrics, and on this level, the album is one NaS' best and will most likely be the best by the end of the year (unless, by some miracle, Rakim' album, the seventh seal is released). A shame that the only thing people seem to do when hearing a new Nas album is wonder whether this will be another Illmatic. But by that standard over 99 percent of records after 1994 and not only in hiphop would fail. This one should be headed for the end of the year llists in stead of getting the current mixed bag of reviews.

Illmatic is still the greatest but "untitlted" comes in tied for 2nd. there are plenty of subliminal hits that prove what hip hop is about. "Queens get the money" is easily the best track not as political but Nas verses over the beat fit poetically.

The only downfall I can think of is also what makes it unique, and thats the beats. The beats are not for everyone I'm afraid. But they seem "talor made" for Nas, as hard as I try, its very difficult to picture anyone else rhyming over these "unique" beats. Like they were custom made to fit Nas' voice and flow. Nas has a nack for making mediocre beats sound like something from DJ Preimer with just his rhymes and flow alone. That said, this is a damn fine accomplishment for Mr. Jones, and should not be missed by anyone seeking a new sound. Expand

Most relevant hip hop album of our time. Period. Please listen to it and explore the ideas/concepts he is bringing to the table. This album can spark the mind of an intelligent person to create change for the better. I know It's just a record, but we need more ones like this. It's grammy worthy material.

Ah finally a classic NaS album after "Hip-hop is Dead". Nas as always promises content and he delivers once again. The album is brilliant! I have seen lots of reviews say the album sounds terrible musically, but i say for the topic at hand the album gives you a soulful feel. Especially from the songs such as "You Cant Stop Us Now" where he includes Eban Thomas from the Last Poets. "Breathe" is an oustanding lyrical song, doesn't have the greatest hook but that make you pay attention to the words of the verses more. N*GGER (Slave and the Master) has the feel of "Roots" or "Amistad" with the beautiful violin mixed with the base guitar. "Fried Chicken" fits the concept of the album beautifully. "Sly Fox" given nas' recent history, oozes his militant mind frame.
