Even if not everything on Velvet Changes works, it shows that Jones can do pure pop as well as experiments--or a mix of both, as on "Holiday Man"--and the album ends up being more promising than uneven.
  2. Under The Radar

The entire album is low-relief but texturally rich. [Mar-Apr 2013, p.98]
  3. Mar 13, 2013

The murky results are sometimes frustrating. [Apr 2013, p.71]

All Velvet Changes creates is a disquieting malaise that deflects any attempt to penetrate its billowy, monochromatic, meaningless contours.

There’s a fine line between dreamy and sleepy, and too often, Dog Bite falls on the wrong side of that divide.
