Excellent! Brilliant, bright happy tunes like 'I only hope' and 'This is the day', beautiful ballads like 'Every morning' and the haunting 'Pretty eyes', the Cranberries back doing what they do best.

Hit and miss. A few decent tunes, and some really boring ones. Dolores does have a good, unique voice, but the voice needs stronger music to buttress it.

ive always been a huge cranberries fan, ever since the first album. this one is better than 'bury the hatchet' i guess. i like the melodies more. it sounds simpler too, closer to heart. i like wake up, every morning, and of course analyse. the cranberries rocks!!! i cnt wait for the next album.

Such a shame this album is lyrically poor, it could've been the bend's best effort since their debut. Musically speaking, the album is sublime. Very calm, ethereal, melodic. The opening "Never Grow Old" has that bittersweet feeling that is so typical for The Cranberries, "Analyse" has an amazing drum indie beggining and catchy vibrant guitar, "Time Is Ticking Out" is very elegant andSuch a shame this album is lyrically poor, it could've been the bend's best effort since their debut. "This Is The Day", aside that is similar with the "Zombie" in some parts, is a real indie monster and the title track goes with the best songs this band ever made. The Smiths-like "Do You Know", "Every Morning" and closing track "Chocolate Brown" are the albums highlights in my opinion. All in all, I'm glad the band decided to stop with this album. Decent way to go hiatus and nice place to start from again. 8/10 Expand

I missed this when it came out but was aware of the singles. While the singles are pretty decent, the whole album sounds like a bit of a watered down rehash of their earlier high points. Such was the quality of those high points, a watered down rehash is still worth a listen and has its merits. "Analyse" (see watered down "Dreams") is a lovely number. "Time is Ticking Out" is another high point along with "This is the Day". To be honest the whole first side of the album is pretty solid while the songs on the second half of the album, while still decent, are definitely less memorable. They were running out of gas for sure and picked a good time to go on hiatus at this stage. One could argue they could have stayed there. Expand

Wake Up... is the set of inspired anthems they needed to deliver in '96. [Oct/Nov 2001, p.103]
  2. The band sounds strong but derivative of its own best work.

    It's official: Dolores O'Riordan is rock's most vapid lyricist. [26 Oct 2001, p.125]
