  • Summary: The third album from the London-based indie outfit.

  1. Once again, Hefner has delivered what is sure to be one of the most original releases of the year.
  2. Admittedly, this is bedroom indie, but it's bedroom indie with strong production and songs that are always self-deprecating enough to not be self-pitying.
  3. A seedily romantic, kitchen-sink paean to London, We Love The City finds Hefner's previously wan guitar stylings given a coat of production lustre.
  4. Hefner are at their best when they stick to their primary theme, which is love that's been confused, bruised and downright disappointed.

It's hard to envisage anything this parochial moving beyond cult status.
  6. Their passion for hating Margaret Thatcher, the royal family, and the tyrannical moves by Parliament is a common theme comically twisted throughout the dozen track set list on We Love the City.
  7. Attention to detail particularly benefits the lush and endearing "Good Fruit," the rare track wherein lovelorn earnestness replaces self-conscious repartee.

Ok its a good record: but Hefner have so failed to live up to the enormous expectations generated by Breaking God's Heart, that they should be considered utter failures by comparison. So if you want to try a Hefner record, buy that one, not this one!. Expand
