Whenever I want to listen to modern indie rock it's usually because crave the refreshing sounds of slightly more experimental music that mainstream music can't satisfy. Unfortunately, The Pigeon Detective on this are a glowing example of the epidemic of indie bands following a popular musical formula just to scrape an once of popularity. This is not to say the album is complete trash. "Can't You Find Me", "Where You Are", and "No State To Drive" are the highlights of the album. I Don't mind them and they hold together nicely with more interesting riffs. Even though they are somewhat formulaic like most of the songs on We Met At Sea I actually enjoyed many of their features. I thought the guitar solos were nice and the songs had the right level of energy and dynamic changes. The rest of the songs are either so cookie cutter bland you could probably them on the Oreos How it's Made episode, or the songs just blend together in a way that you can't distinguish one from the next. Every great album has Unforgettable songs. This album's title should have been titled "Forgettable" because it is a clear antithesis of great. I Won't Come Back and listen to any more of The Pigeon Detectives until they can produce music that is better than their cover band standards. Collapse

Fatally it offers nothing to suggest a band moving forwards. [May 2013, p.109]

While this is a solid effort--and a more solid one than anything they’ve put together before--it’s not likely to set the world, or the charts, on fire.
  3. Four albums later and it's more of the same, minus the big hooks.
