This first outing is subtle, but somehow it packs in drama and poetry in a way that’s tender yet fascinating. It’s been well worth the wait.

There’s little doubt that she’s not finished yet--We Slept At Last gives hints of an artist who could go on for decades, so long as she continues to transport everyday souls into different worlds.

A subtle, understated debut that takes its time, but lands its blows.

The result is a measured, wonderfully arranged, but emotionally singular album, tackling very personal feelings of doubt, pain and insecurity in a way that's easy to feel, but difficult to truly connect with.

One of the highest points of this release without a doubt would have to be Hackman's melodic prowess. There's so much clever chromaticism and harmony across every track that drives the themes of this record home, along with sudden major/minor switches in the instrumentals that shouldn't work on paper but just feel soooo tremendous. There's beautiful string arrangements accompanying several tracks and what percussion is thrown in sounds like it's produced to be in its own little world, overblown, but faint.

This continues to be one of the most thought-provoking releases I've had the pleasure of hearing. Marika Hackman, without question, knows what she is doing.

"We Slept At Last" is a good album to listen to when you need to relax and take all easy to do something better. It is amazing and heavenly!"We Slept At Last" is a good album to listen to when you need to relax and take all easy to do something better. It is amazing and heavenly! Marika Hackman's voice sound so calm and dramatic and at the same time so powerful and ironic... I really loved this one.

Favorite tracks: "Drown", "Skin" and "Animal Fear".
