  • Summary: Frankfurt, Germany IDM artist Rajko Mueller (who records under the name Isolee) drew critical acclaim for this, his second LP and first in five years.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 12 out of 12
  2. Mixed: 0 out of 12
  3. Negative: 0 out of 12
  1. The genius of Wearemonster is that Mueller takes the clarity and mobility of house and synergizes it with the overabundance of melodies, textures, theories, and arrangement schemes found in IDM.
  2. Five years on, We Are Monster finds Raijko Muller so confident and articulate that Rest comes off in comparison like a set of hastily scrawled clutch notes.
  3. If it's not a truly inspiring album, it's nevertheless undeniably impressive.

I'm no good at assigning things genres, but if you like chilled-out electronic dance you don't dance to, with melodies that take a few listens to come to love (but are enticing from the first listen), please try this. Hopefully if it remains high on the Metacritic score list, more people will. It's certainly a cut above muso coffee-table/clothes-shop/wine-bar muzak. Expand

If avant-garde theatrical troupe Blue Man Group were ever to make a "proper" album, it would probably sound a lot like the electronically gorgeous Wearemonster. Expand
