Sometimes gloriously messy, sometimes just simply glorious, it is probably the most fun you'll have all year rhyming with harpists.

With Weird Sister, attentiveness pays off, and rewards with deeper comprehension of what this band are about.

[A] fine new Joanna Gruesome record.

A deeply passionate, impossibly noisy twee record.

The playful and passionate Weird Sister is the natural, exhilarating sound of influences--shoegaze, hardcore, riot grrrl--being assembled in new ways.

While there’s a bit of a formula to be spotted, it’s one that works for them--given that it’s new to us, it’s easy to appreciate and doesn’t wear too thin over Weird Sister's duration.

There may not be enough to lift them above the rather crowded market of similar sounding contemporaries on Weird Sister, but it does hint at a solid enough future.

On listening to this album it reminded me of Velocity Girls Sub Pop debut Copacetic sped up a little. The album is quite short at around half an hour but rewarding and filled with energy. Nice harmonies, noisy dynamic riffs and slightly muddy but endearing production make you want to come back for more. For fans of pixies, sonic youth and proper indie rock. Good effort. Expand
