One of the best albums of 2004. Enjoyed immensly. Some tracks do stand out more than others such as "confusion", "remember me" and "moons and horror shows". Each song is totally different to the next.

It has its high moments in which the sound rattles and shakes in a fantastic electrified blues-rock fashion (Pressure Point, You Will You Wont, Zuton Fever), but from the beginning of the disc on things begin to flounder into a mishmash of neo-folk blasphemy sure to dissapoint those who, like myself, bought the disc excpecting an album full of auditory seizures like Pressure Point and, sadly, only get roghly one-third. I didn't fully listen to this CD until I had the pleasure of seeing The Zutons live. This is a great album, and the Zutons have discovered a highly recognizable, unique sound. It may take a spin or two, but once you get into this album, there's no turning back!

Cor Scully! The Zutons debut is nothing short of brilliant. Who said Swamp Boogie was dead? Not me.

I first encountered this band when they opened for Keane at a show i attended. They have long outlasted Keane in my music collection. A fine album.

"Who Killed...The Zutons?" has its creative highs but comes with a few mediocre moments. Still, no one can argue that this album doesn't have at least one pop song that could be considered a classic in years to come. "You Will You Won't" sounds like a modern day T.Rex song, right down to the foot stomping. "Don't Ever Think (Too Much)" will have you humming its melody whether you want to or not. The saxophone is implemented into this band's music fantastically, bringing an essential layer to these toe-tapping tunes. Expand

Utterly ridiculous; by the time the disc ends, we are left wondering, "Who really did kill the Zutons? I WANT TO KNOW, DAMMIT!"

  1. While it's easy to break Who Killed the Zutons? down into a series of emulations, you still end up wishing it wasn't all so plastic and more... well, lifelike.
  2. A thoughtful and inventive debut album that is more accomplished and accessible than the first offering by [The Coral].

They find a woolly warmth and loopy generosity few English art-rockers have stumbled upon since the first Beta Band record. [Dec 2004, p.124]
