    zebob h, your criterion for judging music includes offensiveness? Would a little gang violence or misogyny improve your opinion? Is being and tasteful and hip now a supposed to be a detraction? Anyway, this is a great cd. My only complaints are the usage of cliched country slide guitar and generally bland arrangements on the later half of the album. If it could have lived up to the zebob h, your criterion for judging music includes offensiveness? Would a little gang violence or misogyny improve your opinion? If it could have lived up to the promise of the first track I would have given it a ten. If you've never heard of Prewitt then you are better off with his earlier cds: Three, or White Sky.… Expand

    I don't think the difference between challenging and offensive is given much due by these reviewers. Maybe what they are looking for is the grandoise and pompous sentiment that has seemed to become a substitute for taste, skill, and substance. But, I suppose that recognizing that is too much to ask from people whose knee-jerk sensibilities condition them to respond to what is genuinely honest and challenging listen condemnations for being popular with the critics or, god forbid, listenable. It's sad that beautiful arrangements and heartfelt lyrics are written off by catchwords like "jilted generaltion" and such urbane comments about it being "corporate friendly music," and really, if you listen to the cd you'd know that no one would ever pick this for their companies compilation; melancholy doesn't move merchandise. So don't listen to the snobs that would rather over simplify than make a real assessment. After all, "cynicism is boring."… Expand

    This is, for the most part, one bloke with a guitar making a lovely noise. Prewitt is generous with his melodies and hooks, providing an abundance of beautiful musical phrases. Timeless sound but does lack edge and variation, so some will not like it on those grounds.
