  • Summary: This is the third full-length studio album for the rock band from Illinois.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 3 out of 8
  2. Negative: 1 out of 8
  1. An often gorgeous and heartbreaking record, Wildlife is kept out of the canon of great growing-pains albums by some stagnant lyrics.
  2. Headlights' third album, Wildlife, is at once their most immediate album and also their most reserved-sounding and emotionally powerful.
  3. So Wildlife isn't exactly bursting at the seams with earworms, but it's a worthy achievement for taking a poignant, powerful emotional state and carrying its thread for 42 minutes.
  4. In the gloomier, more experimental moments, Wildlife merely captures the sound of a band weathering growing pains that will hopefully pass with time.
  5. The well-established indie-pop tricks get results, but are too unerringly calculated to have much distinct personality. Some big, billowy production would have helped.
  6. It still feels like they have a bit more work to do before their albums are consistently exciting from start to finish. [Nov 2009, p.109]
  7. Wildlife is nothing more than an album that sounds fine in the background--even at a volume you couldn’t help but pay attention to--yet ultimately fails to make any kind of memorable impression.
