Will The Guns Come Out is a collection of pleasantly rough and catchy minimalist-rock tunes.

El Khatib's full-length debut is a fine testament to the power of pomade nostalgia, cigarette-pack-in-sleeve tropes, and Gene Vincent licks.

The tracks jump in range between genres, but for the most part you can find a consistent punk sound woven throughout.

If there's an item of ironic animal print clothing hanging in your closet or you know the difference between a porkpie and a derby, then chances are you'll find something to like about Hanni El Khatib's debut effort.

Songs are taut and brief, the guitar/drum arrangements stripped to absolute basics and El Khatib squawks his lines as if his switchblade is giving him grief.

El Khatib's voice is good and scrawny, and yelps out Tennessee hiccups just right. But he works too hard at selling the whole show.

It's certainly not pretty but it's a distinctive first record that, in a bizarre way, appears to live up to his rather unusual claims.
