  • Summary: This is the second album for the Portland, Ore. indie rockers.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 5 out of 9
  2. Negative: 0 out of 9
  1. With a Cape and a Cane sounds almost nothing like its predecessor; the songs ring a million times clearer and the hooks bite far harder.
  2. With a Cape and a Cane sounds merely like a solid indie rock record on a passing listen; give it a few more spins and you will be rewarded.

The Joggers' asymmetrical riffage and labyrinthine phrasing sometimes achieve moments of epic indie-rock grandeur. [14 Oct 2005, p.152]
  4. The Joggers’ struggle against depression yields song after song of emotionally rending rock 'n roll, and the album tells the gritty tale of their fight against this epic beast.
  5. With a Cape and a Cane feels more like it was made by a band of salty old musicians hoping to revive a past success instead of a sophomore album.
  6. Magnet

When this band surprises... it provides moments indie rock could use more of. [#70, p.102]
  7. The Joggers do their thing very well, but it too often turns into camoflauge, as if the artistic presentation is more a study in form than a revelation.
