    I never understood what was so meaningful about woodstock. They have been rehashing and recycling its 'best of' moments in compilations such as this for years and years. They are all just a jangly mess with a few moments of clarity that are better heard on the source artists live album. Dont be sucked in by the Nostalgia. I was at Woodstock. I saw Hendrix. It wasn't that I never understood what was so meaningful about woodstock. They have been rehashing and recycling its 'best of' moments in compilations such as this for years and years. They are all just a jangly mess with a few moments of clarity that are better heard on the source artists live album. Dont be sucked in by the Nostalgia. I was at Woodstock. I saw Hendrix. It wasn't that great. This album is another weak cash in which magazines like Rolling Stone drool over until the next Bob Dylan reissue.… Expand

    The list of the era’s top head acts is impressive--everyone from Tim Hardin and Canned Heat to Jefferson Airplane and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Trouble is, the roll call doesn’t make much logical sense.

    We could have used more of the Incredible String Band or Richie Havens! But these are individual complaints. The set as it stands is the ultimate document--thus far--and will likely be for some time to come.

    40 Years On: Back to Yasgur's Farm is a dandy primer and/or refresher course in why that mythic, muddy lovefest mattered, man.
