Think of Tom Waits in mutant stomp mode and the rock/pop sensibilities of The Brian Jonestown Massacre in combination. Sound messy? Well, in theory it ought to be and 'Your Turn' does on occasion sound it only in a good way though whilst at others it has a surprisingly clean and direct approach. By no means is this a pop album and it can't be said it's outstandingly original, but itThink of Tom Waits in mutant stomp mode and the rock/pop sensibilities of The Brian Jonestown Massacre in combination. By no means is this a pop album and it can't be said it's outstandingly original, but it is a satisfying and enjoyable chunk of noise. Behind its ramshackle aspect a lot of thought and skill has gone into its creation so, if you're in a rollicking mood, this is a good choice of record to spin. I'd have given it 7½ out of 10 if I could have. Expand

It’s a cranky record that gets exciting entirely on its own schedule.

It's bolder, more focused and just all-around more rocking [than 2008's Party Intellectuals]. [No.98, p.59]

Party Intellectuals may have set the bar high, but Your Turn is definitely a worthy follow-up.
