    Ariana has an incredible voice and she delivers a stunning performance throughout the album, but that being said, it's not really my style. This is a pretty decent album and it's enjoyable throughout if you're into R&B, but a lot of these songs don't break out of the standard R&B mold too much.     This albums is so fun and spectacular. It is very rare to find a good debut album, however Miss Grande has shown that she is much more than being an actress with red hair on a Nickelodeon TV Show.

    For some time, I have heard of rivalries between Taylor Swift--whose music I have loved--and Ariana Grande, whom I have not listened to extensively. Because of this, I decided to listen to Grande’s music to really be able to compare the two. After just one album, I cannot do anything because that’s just not enough to base comparisons on. However, I did find that Yours Truly, Ariana Grande’s first album, only beats one of Swift’s albums: the notorious “reputation”, which I gave a score of 2.18, as it suffers from extensive use of generic drum kits and synths and the lyric quality deterioration (they had been so powerful in previous Taylor Swift albums). Now, back to Grande. Yours Truly suffers from the same musicality issue but puts autotune into the mix, which I am not a fan of. Despite this, Grande is able to make upbeat music that does a fair job of disguising these commonalities, so this issue isn’t a big deal for most of the songs in this album. Specifically, I thought Popular Song was amazing, as I love the musical “Wicked” and I was thrilled that they made a real song out of the musical’s version, and other songs like Piano and Better Left Unsaid were great as well. That being said, I did have a bit of a problem with Right There. Right There simply uses too much autotune and has some weird rap riff thing that I wasn’t a fan of, plus it uses some annoying drums. Besides some other minor issues, I had a pretty good time listening to what Ariana Grande had to offer, and I look forward to hearing more of her stuff. Highlights: Honeymoon Avenue, Tattooed Heart, Piano, Popular Song, and Better Left Unsaid.    … Expand

    Ariana's beautiful vocals help propel this album into being one of the best pop releases of the year with ease. Her song topics are limited, but nonetheless, that is far from a negative as she has mastered this area of music.

    I really love this album, I didn't think that a Nickelodeon actress could release an album with this quality. It's so sad that she changed her style and became comercial with ''My Everything''. Maybe she will change with Moonlight but I don't think so. Honeymoon Avenue is my favorite song of her..

    Ariana's debut album is gorgeous, beautiful and enjoyable. She has demonstrated her strong vocal since her debut album. People say that she is the young Mariah Carey because of her vocal, yes she is. All of the tracks on this album touch my feelings, made me chill and some tracks are fun like "The Way", "Right There"

    It is one of the best works performed by a new artist and its release. The sound is good, but sins in its exaggerated vocals and something that sounds commercial. Songsas stay in your head but don't become saturated, but good to sing. You can be sure with a well-rated debut album like that, something better comes in a few years.

    I really can not decide if that me or My Everything is the best album of Ariana, her voice can make any music be good, its simplicity makes this album it more special. Certainly a great album

    Ariana Grande's debut album is fantastic. The album has amazing songs and she has a spectacular voice. I loved her since she starred on Victorious. One of my very favorite debut albums. I loved the songs Piano, Baby I, The Way, Tattooed Heart, Almost is Never Enough.

    Ah, what an espectacular debut. It's a mix of pop and R&B that perfectly combines with her strong voice. The songs are also emotional and catchy, making at first an unforgettable record.

    The album's second single "Baby I" is a very smooth mid-tempo R&B song. I love the horns in the background. Its chorus is a shameless rip-off of Mariah Carey's "Secret Love".
    "Tattooed Heart" has a doo-wop sound and is simply a beautiful ballad. Her vocals are incredible on this one. "Daydreamin‘" is another great song that has a very nice melody in my opinion. The album's lead single "The Way" featuring Mac Miller still sounds fresh today and I remember being obsessed with it when it was released. Also her high notes towards the end of the song are incredible. "Almost Is Never Enough" featuring Nathan Skyes is a beautiful piano ballad with great lyrics. It reminds me a lot of Whitney Houston. "Popular Song" featuring Mika is my guilty pleasure. It doesn’t fit on this album but it’s just a very fun pop tune to be honest. Of course the album has its weaknesses. "Piano" sounds very dated and messy. "Lovin' It" is a terrible song and in my opinion one of the worst songs of Ariana's entire discography. The album's final track "Better Left Unsaid" doesn’t fit on this album...at all. It has a very VERY dated dance pop sound. Overall I think that "Yours Truly" is a solid debut album. I love its uniqueness. Which other 20 year old act, especially one that is tied to a Nickelodeon show, releases a debut album that pays tribute to 90s R&B? Especially in 2013 where EDM and dance pop where popular and done by literally everyone. This album definitely stood out and many of its songs still sound fresh today. Of course it has its weakness, its songs are not as strong as album tracks from "Dangerous Woman" or "thank u, next" but the debut is rarely ever an artist’s strongest work. And it’s still miles ahead of "Sweetener" lol.

    Arinana's debut album was spectacular. You would think that a nick star that's still pretty young would push out disgusting garbage that you'll never want to listen to after the first listen but surprisingly this album was an instant classic. It didn't have amazing lyrics but the beats of the songs were irresistible and the production was better than any pop album this year.

    Her voice is so powerful. It feels like a Broadway show. There are really weak songs but strong ones too. Good for a 2013 debut album, but I'm reviewing it in 2020. 65/100.

    Spectacularly catchy songs are the content of Ariana's debut, and the production is also top-notch albeit sometimes a tad bit too sweet and sugary. Grande's vocals are great and elevates her horrible lyricism into a more listenable state.

    This album is worth a purchase if you don't mind Ariana's terrible lyricism.

    Ariana's irresistible and heavenly sweet voice makes you forget the songwriting's crap to the ears and brain. But only for awhile. Anyhow, it's hard to complain about Ariana, since this her debut. But who knows? Her potential is simply unmatched, and we need a producer and a songwriter to harvest and use that.

    It's really amazing how on her first album, Ariana Grande managed to show herself as a woman with a voice and who can excel in some voices of her generation. With an incredible voice, "Yours Truly" is an ingenious and cohesive work, without many artificial effects that sometimes spoil a good work. Ariana was beginning to follow a path of talent and intelligence in her way of doing music.

    Ariana com certeza serve vocais bonitos, contudo eu não acredito que seja um álbum consistente porque existem altas e baixas no decorrer do álbum, também acho que ele não oferece muito em criatividade e em letras e soa um pouco disneyland em várias faixas, o que, eu não considero agradável.

Thankfully "Yours Truly" the debut album fro Grande proves to be a success with well written songs, great production value, and Outstanding Vocals from Grande herself. The album starts out with the single "Honeymoon Avenue" which has some similarities with Timberlake's opening track "Pusher Love Girl" mostly for it's Violin and Strings at the beginning. the first half is ballads that shine because Grande provides plenty of Depth to each track with her own signature style. The second half is more fun and meant to be taken lightly which is a different approach from most pop albums, but "Yours Truly" manages to pull off this scheme very well. There are a couple of problems, some songs in the middle drag on a little, also it's not a very thoughtful album, the messages here are mostly about young love, nothing more, nothing less. But still "Yours Truly" is one of the more enjoyable pop albums to come along in a while, and proves that Grande has the chops to pull everything off on her own.… Expand

    Her vocals on this album are flawless. Also, the throwback but fresh and new style makes it so easy and relaxing to listen to. Tattooed Heart is one of her best songs ever, as well as Lovin It and You'll Never Know. A dazzling debut from a powerhouse vocalist.

    Ariana Grande has a spectacular voice, which has a very high range (similar to Mariah Carey). All the songs are magical. Some are danceable while others are pleading ballads. Simply Amazing. This album is simply a gift, from Ariana truly.

    Ariana’s debut album is a good starts in a big career, the way the vocals perfectly fits with the magical harmonies and the instrumentals, it’s beautiful. Sometimes in this album you’ll get kinda bored but in next second a high note or a orchestra moment hits you and prove it that yours truly it’s amazing.

I have to admit that this album is my least favorite out of all her albums. The songs are ok and well written . I have to give it to her for those amazing vocals of hers. I am happy that she is growing into a huge artist and that her first album did quite well with the charts and also sales.

The musical style of Yours Truly explores a "retro style" sound mixing 1990s pop and R&B, with certain songs incorporating influences from mid-'90s hip hop, '50s piano pop, and doo-wop. Scott Interrante from PopMatters complimented the music presented in the album and noted that compositionally and production wise, "tropes of both styles are blended together effortlessly." As he perceived, "erratic programmed drums support the rich harmonies and piano chords of the more doo-wop songs and the R&B tracks are infused with a wide-eyed optimism more associated with the ‘60s pop style." Pitchfork's Andrew Ryce felt that Grande opted "for a 90s hip-hop soul vibe that awkwardly sits with the more doo-wop-indebted songwriting." The album opens with an orchestral intro that introduces the first track "Honeymoon Avenue", a downtempo song composed in the key of F-sharp major and set in a 4/4 time signature at a moderate tempo of 63 beats per minute. The song explores the 1950s musical style mixing doo-wop with an urban-inspired sound. Lyrically, "Honeymoon Avenue" uses several metaphors to speaks about someone in a car being driven by her (romantic) partner. The driver is stuck to the same old route and driving mode that may make them crash. In interview with MTV, Grande explained its lyrics saying that "Honeymoon Avenue" "is about knowing you are at the end of a relationship and wishing it could not be the end and go back to the beginning and start over." The second track "Baby I" is drenched in a "retro sound" from 1990s R&B and pop sonority. Lyrically, "Baby I" is a confession on Grande's behalf admitting a special love for someone and how she can't formulate her strong feelings into words. The elements of "Baby I" are further illustrated by its use of finger snaps, a syncopated beat, horns and drums. The third track "Right There" features guest appearance by rapper Big Sean. Musically, "Right There" also incorporates the influences frein 1990s R&B and urban music, mixing "stabbing synths", trap-inflected beat and a hip hop groove. Reviewing the song, Jason Lipshutz from Billboard noted that "while Big Sean boasts about his sexual prowess, Grande flaunts her typically impressive melismas before ratcheting up the emotion for the finale." The fourth track "Tattooed Heart" is a doo-wop song written in the key of G major with a tempo of 72 beats per minute in compound quadruple (12/8) time while Grande's vocals spans from D4 to F5.     Ariana Grande's debut album is unexpectedly amazing. The 90's pop/R&B vibe on it with her angelical voice made this album a big standout. "Yours Truly" it's just like a Mariah Carey album when she used to made great albuns.

    An unexpected delight. Expectations were at low as possible seeing as how Ariana is a product of Nickelodeon. Each song is beautifully serenaded by Ariana Grande and superb voice. Ariana doesn't come off as another pop artist trying to whore her way through pop culture. Finally the world has a mature, respectable, and truly talented artist.

That exactly sums up my feelings towards Yours Truly, a confident,Yours Truly is a pleasurable experience: like seeing someone you've known for years in the street, or going to a birthday party like the ones you had as a kid, but with the exclusion of your drunk aunty. However, after a few days, do you still fervently recall it? The party? The friend? Be honest; you wouldn't. That exactly sums up my feelings towards Yours Truly, a confident, well-produced throwback to 90's R&B with a little bit of doo-wop thrown into the mix for good measure. Whilst there's a few standout songs there (The Way, Baby I, Piano), the rest are agreeable, but nothing special, album fillers. However, there's an immense amount of heart and soul in there: the fact that Grande and her producers have been tweaking and singing and writing the songs as if their very lives depended on it is very prevalent. It left us expecting a great sophomore album. That didn't necessarily happen, the heart and soul replaced with a newly found corporate sheen and the R&B rhythms gone, and EDM beats instead sitting in its place. Ariana Grande has a fantastic voice, but both her first and second albums didn't reach their full potential. Here's hoping third time lucky, but now she's a stratospheric pop princess with worldwide hits like Problem or Break Free, corporate moguls who like to suck the life out of everything may prevail.… Expand

And it might be her favorite too, because she is very identified with it, she wishes she lived in Honeymoon Avenue and has tattoed hearts on her body. This was a #1 album as well but the overall opinion was that she was very underlooked. She is the opposite now, a superstar viewed and regarded to high standards when it comes to about anything measurable that indicates success. She is considered a hit maker now but essentially Ariana Grande always wanted to make an R&B album, this will always be the foundation of her career, which I hope is very long lived. When people doubt her future or recent material, they can always check out Yours Truly, I think she could make anyone appreciate it and see how Ariana has a great place in music. As we can see she can be a full pop star or a very gifted R&B singer, there is no way she doesn't continue growing as an artist. And we can't settle for Yours Truly to be her best album. It showcases Ariana's talent in the most exquisite way and makes you enjoy & feel the throwback in every single track. It's cohesive, exciting, warming and professional.
