Born in London to a Spanish Communist from Madrid and an Italian housekeeper, Alfred Molina grew up in a working-class neighborhood in Notting Hill where many immigrant families lived. Having seen Spartacus inspired him to pursue acting when he was nine. He attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Molina is known more as a character actor portraying various supporting roles in several movies since the early 80's (see here for his film credits). He has also appeared in several stage productions including The Night of the Iguana, Speed the Plow, Art, and Fiddler on the Roof.
Molina is a U.S. citizen and is married to Jill Gascoine since 1985. He has a daughter Rachel (born 1980) from a previous relationship while Jill also has two sons, Adam and Sean, from her first marriage. Molina has two grandchildren, Alfie (born November 2003) and Layla (born May 2006).
