Biography: Alison is one of two daughters born to David & Jenny Newman, two school teachers (Jenny was actually a headmistress). She has one sister called Sarah and they lived in Bournemouth, Dorset. Alison studied drama in Manchester alongside Cold Feet actor John Thompson. After she graduated, it was 10 years before she actually got any work. During that time she worked in the music business, in advertising and as a barmaid. She has worked as an assistant director during her days on stage Alison's big break came during a two episode stint for Bad Girls where she played the deadly Renee Williams. A year later, executive producer Brian Park was casting for a new and different character for his new show Footballers Wives and remembered what an impact Alison when she appeared in Bad Girls. The role of power crazy lesbian Hazel was handed to her on a plate and she has since gone on to make Hazel one of the most entertaining characters on television
