Amaya Brecher

Biography: Amaya Brecher is a native of Oakland, California where, due to a liberal upbringing in a culturally diverse community, she grew into an open-minded, socially conscience young woman, often questioning the world around her. Her childhood was spent visiting her father's old hippie commune, taking trips to learn about her Basque heritage, and pursuing the arts. Amaya's Jewish-American father and Spanish born mother continually encouraged her to be curious, brave, and to truly experience what life has to offer. Always supported in artistic endeavors, she fed her creativity by studying piano, art, writing, singing, and performing. She also fed her soul by working with children as a peer counselor and volunteering at an AIDS center.

After graduating from the UCLA School of Theater, she began her relationship with MTV Networks and Bunim-Murray Productions, appearing on The Real World: Hawaii and two Real World/Road Rules Challenges. Her visibility has afforded Amaya the ability to reach out to her peers to talk about body-and self-image. Currently, she lectures at colleges and universities across the United States, speaking about eating disorders and self-esteem.

Amaya has appeared in such publications as Teen People, US, Entertainment Weekly, and TV Guide. She has also been a guest on various television and radio programs including The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Politically Incorrect, and Love Line. Her television career began as a teen investigative reporter for KRON-TV Channel 4 in San Francisco. She presently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
