Biography: Andy Garcia received wide acclaim for his performance in "The Godfather, Part III," which earned him Oscar and Golden Globe Award nominations. That role, along with his performance in "Internal Affairs" that same year, led to his being named 1990 Star of the year by NATO (National Association of Theatre Owners).
Garcia had his directorial debut with "Cachao...Como Su Ritmo No Hay Dos (Like His Rhythm There is no other)." A feature-length documentary concert film on legendary Cuban bass player and composer Israel "Cachao" Lopez, co-creator of the Mambo, the film, which he also co-produced, has received worldwide critical praise.
Andres Arturo Garcia-Menendez was born in Havana, Cuba on April 12, 1956. He had an unusual growth on his shoulder. It turned out to be a twin that hadn't fully developed. "They just snipped it off, apparently," says Garcia. His family moved to Miami Beach, Florida when he was 5 years old. As a result he has deep feelings for his country, Cuba.

He attended Florida International University and spent several years performing in regional theatre productions before moving to Los Angeles in the late 1970s where he held many jobs. Then, he landed a part in an episode of Hill Street Blues and in 1985, in The Mean Season. His breakthrough role in 8 Million Ways to Die paved way for his movie career to follow.
He married Maria Victora in 1982 after 7 years of dating. They now have three daughters - Dominik, Daniella and Alessandra. Andy Garcia is said to be very protective of his family's privacy.
