Annie Duke

Biography: Annie was born in Concord, New Hampshire into a family who had card playing and competition in their blood. Annie's parents were teachers, with her father having taught at Saint Paul's Prep School in New Hampshire. Then, at the age of 18, Annie matriculated into Columbia University where she completed a double major of Psychology and English. She then moved on to the University of Pennsylvania to obtain her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology. However, she left graduate school a month before defending her Ph.D when she proposed and married an old friend, Ben Duke. While living in Billings, Montana, Annie started playing poker in local card rooms to pay the mortgage. It was when in 1994, Annie's borther Howard suggested that she try playing in the World Series of Poker. At the Las Vegas tournament, she placed 13th and knocked her brother out of the tournament, and the rest, as they say, is history. Annie and her husband then moved to Las Vegas to try her hand a becoming a professional poker player. From that point on, Duke became established as one of the best poker players in the world. What is most likely Annie's biggest feat came in 2004, when she beat over 230 players in the World Series of Poker's Omaha Hi/Lo event to win her first bracelet. Annie then went on to beat 8 other players, one of which was her brother Howard Lederer, in the $2 million dollar winner-take-all World Series of Poker's Tournament of Champions. It's with all of this success, Annie will continue to take the poker world by storm in years to come. Expand
