David Lynch

Biography: David Lynch, born David Keith Lynch on January 20, 1946 in Missoula, Montana, is an avant-garde American filmmaker. Originally intending to be a painter, Lynch attended both the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. While at the latter, Lynch made his first foray into filmmaking, directing the short film Six Men Getting Sick in 1966. Lynch moved to Los Angeles in 1971 to study at the AFI Conservatory. He experienced his first significant success in 1977 when his feature film, Eraserhead, was released. The film got Lynch noticed by the Hollywood community, and he would direct the high-profile films The Elephant Man and Dune in the early 1980s. In the 1990s, Lynch began to experiment in television, creating the cult television show Twin Peaks. He continued to work regularly in film as well, directing critically acclaimed films such as The Straight Story and Mulholland Dr. Lynch has been married on four occasions, most recently to Emily Stofle whom he wed in 2009.
