David Suchet

Biography: David Suchet was the second of three boys born to Jack and Joan Suchet. He was sent to boarding school at age eight, but a few years later he attended public school. At eighteen he decided on an acting career and was a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. He then studied for three years at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) and became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

For many years Suchet starred in numerous plays, TV series, and movies. It was while watching his performance in Blott on the Landscape that Rosalind Hicks, Agatha Christie's daughter, decided he would be the perfect choice to play Poirot. When a series about the detective went into development, Hicks remembered her thoughts, and David was cast in 1987. After much research, the show began filming in 1988. It premiered in 1989 to raves from both critics and audiences. A few years later, David was nominated for a BAFTA. The series supposedly ended with Dumb

After much research, the show began filming in 1988. It premiered in 1989 to raves from both critics and audiences. A few years later, David was nominated for a BAFTA. The series supposedly ended with Dumb Witness, but five years later it was brought back with The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. Today, the series is still going strong, in the form of 120 minute movies.

But David does not limit himself to Poirot. He was nominated for several awards for The Way We Live Now, and he continues to garner acclaim on stage, including his recent performance in Man and Boy, a play by Terrence Rattigan. In his spare time, David enjoys playing the clarinet and spending time on his boat. He is happily married to Sheila Ferris, and has two children: Robert and Katherine.
