Doug Ellin

Biography: Born in New York and growing up in Long Island, Ellin has the perfect background to write the antics of a few NY boys on the west coast in his hit TV series Entourage. Shortly after he moved to Los Angeles from his native New York City, Ellin worked as a stand-up comedian at such venues as The Improv and The Comedy Store.

In 1996 Ellin made a low-budget film called Phat Beach, guest starring Coolio, about a couple of average guys who make easy money by selling sunglasses on the beach. He followed this with the movie Kissing a Fool starring David Schwimmer. In 2002, before producing and writing for his 2005 hit TV series Entourage, Ellin was a writer for ABC TV's Life with Bonnie, starring and directed by actress Bonnie Hunt which could be called a prelude to the hugely successful 30 Rock. Doug is Jewish and this clearly comes through in his writing for the character, Ari Gold in Entourage.
