Dylan was born in 1971 in County Meath, Navan, Ireland. His career as a stand up comedian began in 1992, in Dublin's Comedy Cellar in the International Bar on Wicklow Street.
In addition to his comedy, he wrote a weekly column for The Irish Times in the years 1995-1996.
In 1997 he went on his first major one man stand up UK tour Gurgling For Money. He also performed at several festivals such as Hay Literary Festival, Montreal Comedy Festival, Vancouver Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival.
In 2000 he got his own show on the British Channel 4, Black Books, that lasted for 3 seasons. He was not only the lead character, he also co-wrote the series.
Dylan met his wife, Elaine, at The Gilded Balloon in Edinburgh and they married in London on the day of Princess Diana's funeral, in a church just around the corner. They have 2 children. As of 2003, Dylan and his family live in Edinburgh.
