Iggy Pop, whose real name is James Newell Osterberg, Jr., is an all-around singer, musician, songwriter, and actor. Iggy is known for his wild antics on stage, and for his innovation in the punk rock genre. He was born April 21, 1947 in Muskegon, Michigan. Iggy began performing in various bands as early as his time in Fordson High School, where he also received the name Iggy. Iggy was inspired by Jim Morrison, the lead singer for The Doors. Iggy would adopt many of Morrison's extreme behaviors, and expound on them. This potentially had an impact on the popularity of The Stooges, the band that was his breakthrough project. Iggy would later go on to a long solo career, touring with the likes of David Bowie. On March 15, 2010, Iggy was honored with an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Iggy has also made appearances in 16 movies such as Tank Girl and The Crow: City of Angels, and his songs have been featured in almost 20 film soundtracks. He has appeared in several television shows as well, including The Adventures of Pete and Pete, and Tales from the Crypt.
