Australian-born Jacinda Barrett is a model-turned-actress who began her career as a reality TV personality and worked her way to claiming international fame. She may yet to achieve superstardom as such by her fellow Aussies Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, and Nicole Kidman, but she has indeed built her niche in Hollywood with the films, Ladder 49 (2004), Poseidon (2006), The Last Kiss (2006) among others.
After studying drama and finishing high school at Kenmore State High School in Brisbane, she flew to Europe and worked as a fashion model based in Paris, France. It was in 1995 that she made her first onscreen appearance as a cast member of MTV's The Real World: London. She then took some time off and attended the British Academy of Dramatic Art in Oxford. In 1997, Jacinda made her film debut in the horror flick, Campfire Tales.
Soon after, she was able to cross over to Hollywood by landing a role in Urban Legends: The Final Cut (2000). Her big break came when she was cast opposite Nicole Kidman and Anthony Hopkins in the 2003 drama The Human Stain. Since then, Barrett has worked in various films from different genres with the likes of Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004), Billy Bob Thornton in School for Scoundrels (2006), and Natalie Portman and Orlando Bloom in New York, I Love You (2009).
