Born on the 2nd of March 1930, John Cullum grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. As a graduate of the University of Tennessee Cullum made his debut on Broadway as one of the singing knights in the 1960 portrayal of Camelot. However is was 23 years later before Cullum made his first major screen appearance in The Day After. Although he was more comfortable on-stage, Cullum began appearing more and more on the small screen, with guest spots on shows like One Life to Live.
Venturing to New York fifty years ago to pursue an acting career, Cullum had barely had a minute to stop and think before he was working non-stop. After doing numerous Shakespearean plays, Broadway productions and minor movie roles, John hit the big time when he scored a role in the musical On a Clear Day you can see Forever. This experience soon got him more and more acting jobs, including playing Max the Dog in The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Musical!.
Cullum has since lent his voice to three Ken Burns documentaries and several audiobooks including works by Stephen King.
John was an accomplished tennis star in College and toured around Europe with doubles partner Bill Davis. Also he was a Colonel of the 1000-man Army Reserve Officers Training Corp at the University of Tennessee.
The youngest child to Mr and Mrs E.V Cullum Jr. John married modern dancer, choreographer and playwright Emily Frankel and had a son JD (John David) Cullum who is also an actor.… Expand
