Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Jose is a student of NY theater. After years of stage work in New York and Europe, he moved to Los Angeles to make the transition to film and television. His most recognizable role was in the Steven Soderberg film Traffic opposite Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Vargas and Cliffton Collins Jr. where he portrayed a corrupt Tijuana soldier known as the “Torturer." Prior to Traffic Yenque was featured in a pivotal role opposite Jimmy Smits in New Line Cinema’s, The Price of Glory.
Yenque will be seen this fall in the new ABC drama Marlowe. Rounding up 2007, Yenque will resume the role of “Leo” in the film Disenchanted Island which is the sequel to his last film I Believe in America. (dir. Michael Navarez). Presently, Yenque stars in the film Between (dir. David Ocanas) opposite Poppy Montgomery (Without a Trace) Patricia Reyes Spindola (Frida, Before Nite Falls) and Danny Pino (Cold Case) which premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival and is currens currently airing on the Lifetime network..
Most television viewers remember Yenque as “Gabriel” in Lifetime Network’s The Division.
Yenque’s other notable performances have been seen on hit primetime shows such as ER, Lincoln Heights, Without a Trace, CSI: Miami, JAG, Angel, NYPD Blue and the The X-Files. Yenque also enjoyed lending his voice talent for the snake-like villain “Copperhead” on WB’s The Justice League for the Cartoon Network.
Several years ago, Yenque has had the honor to work with his mother, Broadway Stage Actress, Teresa Yenque, as well as Lisa Vidal and Miriam Colon, in HBO’s The Blue Diner (dir. Jan Egelson).
Yenque has received rave reviews for his Spanish Language work as the lead role in the complex and unconventional love story Punos Rosas (Pink Punch) for TELVISA, and Yenque’s T.V. film debut earned him an ALMA Award for Foto-Novelas: The Fix (dir Carlos Avila) in which he played a down and out boxer in search of redemption. Yenque now lives in Los Angeles.
