Biography: Joseph Gordon-Levitt was born in Los Angeles, California on February 17, 1981 to parents Dennis Levitt and Jane Gordon. At the age of six he sang in a children's musical group and from there progressed to performing at schools and malls and appearing in national television commercials. His first main role came at the age of seven when he appeared in the TV movie 'Stranger on My Land'. Joseph had guest starring roles in TV shows such as Family Ties and Roseanne. In 1992 Joseph made his feature film debut in 'A River Runs Through It' and from there has appeared in many other films including 'The Juror' and 'Roadkillers'. In 1996 Joseph gained the role of Tommy Solomon in Third Rock from the Sun. When he was 19 he quit acting for a while and attended Columbia University in New York. Joseph now splits his time between Los Angeles and New York.
